It's a Travellers' Choice: By Itinerary vs By Ship

When it comes to planning a cruise vacation, there are two types of cruisers those who choose a cruise based on its itinerary and the ports it will visit, and those who choose a cruise based on the ship itself.

Choosing by Itinerary:

For some travelers, like myself, the destination is the main focus when selecting a cruise. I start by looking at the region I want to explore and then delve into the specific ports of call. It is the allure of discovering new places and experiencing different cultures that drives my decision-making process.

Choosing by Ship:

On the other hand, there are cruisers who prioritize the amenities and entertainment options offered on the ship. From rock climbing walls to water slides, roller skating rinks to bumper cars, these travelers seek out ships that provide a plethora of activities and facilities. Once they find a ship that meets their criteria, they then look at the sailing itineraries.

For families with children, choosing a cruise based on the ship can offer the best of both worlds. Parents can enjoy the adult-oriented amenities and relaxation, while kids have a blast with the onboard entertainment options.

The Icon of the Seas: A Ship Lover's Dream

For those who choose cruises based on the ship, the Icon of the Seas is a prime example of a vessel that ticks all the boxes. This Royal Caribbean ship is the newest and largest in the world, boasting an impressive array of amenities. With 40 restaurants, 7 pools, a rock climbing wall, 6 water slides, and a 55-foot waterfall, this ship is a paradise on the sea.

The Icon of the Seas can accommodate a staggering 10,000 passengers and features five distinct neighborhoods for guests to explore. Currently sailing out of Miami to the Caribbean, this ship offers a truly luxurious and exciting cruising experience.

Personal Experience: Choosing by Itinerary

While the Icon of the Seas may be a dream for ship lovers, my preference lies in choosing cruises based on the itinerary. Last January, I embarked on a voyage to New Zealand and Australia aboard the Island Princess. This smaller cruise ship owned by Princess Cruises may not have the bells and whistles of larger vessels, but its itinerary through the Panama Canal to Sydney, Australia captured my heart.

Whether you shop for cruises based on the itinerary or the ship, each approach offers a unique way to experience the wonders of cruising. So, what type of cruiser are you? Do you prioritize the journey or the vessel that takes you there?
